Sahaxi (suh-hacks-ee) are ostritch-sized carnivores native to Charon.
These predators are extremely dangerous, and will attack any other carnivores in their territory. For this reason, Charonites tend to avoid them, only engaging them if food is scarce.
Anatomy and appearanceEdit
Sahaxi are between 8-10 feet tall, with females typically smaller than males. They can see into the infrared spectrum, and have highly sensitive nostrils. The headcrest is also packed with electrosensitive cells. Their mandibles have razor sharp edges, giving them a lethal bite. Despite being bulky and clumsy in appearance, sahaxi are capable of short bursts of speed. To avoid detection from prey, sahaxi have little to no scent.
Sahaxi are clever carnivores that hunt in pairs. When hunting, the pair will stalk prey from afar, observing their direction. One will leave, heading towards a spot along the path of their prey, where they will hide in the thick undergrowth of the swamps and forests. The other will wait, and at an unknown signal will charge at the prey, chasing it towards their partner. Once nearby, the partner will wait until they prey is close, the charge forward and impale it on the row of spikes lining the creatures' skull. Sahaxi mate for live, and will always hunt with one another; unmated sahaxi usually hunt with siblings.
